Have you ever wondered how it will feel if you can experience the news itself? In April 2014, Jaunt, a virtual reality company in Palo Alto, has been visited by the John S. If you have watch the TRON movies especially “TRON: Legacy“, you will definitely feel over excited looking at the above picture. This Light Cycle simulator above is made by The Arcade Man and the design looks similar as the one used by the film main character, Kevin Flynn.
This “RiftCycles Project” use the game made with Unity, a game development ecosystem, which is developed by Overflow Interactive, a portuguese startup. The game is about the Light Cycle battle which takes place in the dark digital TRON world. Luckily, the game is fully compatible with the Oculus Rift. While the players can fully enjoy the immersiveness of the virtual reality racing game, I wish that the players will not be trapped there forever (like in the movie). On the coming 26th April 2015 which is next year, runners all around the world can participate in the first digital marathon ever organized in this planet. This spectacular event called “Digital Virgin Money London Marathon” will be organized by the Virgin Money London Marathon and Paofit. On 25th March 2014, Facebook has announced that they will acquire Oculus VR, the company who made the popular Oculus Rift virtual reality headset, for around $2 billion in cash and stock. From the Facebook standpoint, Oculus VR is currently the leader in virtual reality technology and the acquisition is expected to close in second quarter (Q2) of 2014. So, how this acquisition aligned with the Facebook’s mission to make the world to be more open and connected?
Based from Mark Zuckerberg’s announcement on the acquisition, I can feel that Facebook is very interested to increase the level of community sharing to one step further. As you know, via Facebook, users can share their idea, image and video with their friends through the platform. Soon, with the virtual reality platform offered by Oculus Rift, users would be able to also share their entire experiences and adventures too. Instead of just imagining it by looking at the photos, users can now “feel” and “experience” it via the high tech virtual reality gadget. it This will be exciting moment to come.
