At last, on 28th July 2015, Nokia revealed its new product that might be closely related with VR world. During an industry event at Los Angeles, Nokia Technologies introduced OZO, a virtual reality camera that is capable to capture 360-degree shots thus producing stereoscopic 3D video. This type of VR camera will enable the user to create movies and games that are more immersive.
About OZO, the Virtual Reality Camera…
OZO looks like a spherical device that can captures stereoscopic 3D video. It performs this by using its eight optical image sensors where it can captures the images from it surroundings. Each is spaced about one-inch or 2.5cm apart. Not only that, it also comes with integrated microphones, one in each camera, that make it able to capture sound and spatial audio as well. It weights around 2.7kg or 6-pound. The capability that excite me the most is the real-time 3D viewing.
At this moment the target market is more towards the business segment like the studios, movie makers and especially for the professional content creators. Some of the studios that were given opportunity to use OZO are Jaunt Inc.and Side Trip.
According to Ramzi Haidamus, the president of Nokia Technologies, OZO will define a completely new category of virtual reality capture and playback solutions. He expect that this VR experiences will soon radically enhance the way people communicate and connect to stories, world events, entertainment and each other.
It looks like a promising virtual reality camera in the future since it can make life much easier for the VR content developers. Especially with its playback solution that can remove the need to perform the tedious tasks such as pre-assembling the panoramic image. For more info, you can read it at:
