For those who have something to show to the world on stuff related with virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), this is your best time to demo it at the SIGGRAPH 2017 event in Los Angeles. The event will be held from 30th July to 3rd August 2017. For your info, SIGGRAPH is an annual event where the conference and exhibition is focusing on computer graphics and interactive techniques. And this is the 44th time they held this kind of event!! Fuhhh….. Below is the detail on the VR submissions.
VR Submissions for SIGGRAPH….
Basically, there are three ways or programs where you can submit your stuff. The first is the “Emerging Technologies”. Next is the “Computer Animation Festival”. And the last one is the “VR Village”. So, how you gonna differentiate among these three and decide where to submit your masterpiece?
For the “Emerging Technologies“, the focus is more on the hardware and technology perspective. The project can be a new technology or a novel use of existing technology. For examples are the input devices, wearables, interaction techniques, displays etc. The elements of surprise and innovative must be there. The deadline is on 14th February 2017. This segment is chaired by Jeremy Kenisky where he is also a VP (Vice President) at Merge VR.
Next is “Computer Animation Festival” where the highlight is on the storytelling. Yep, content is still the king. For example are the short films, advertisements, experiences or music videos. It will be showcase in the VR Theater. For your info, this is the first time where this festival accept the short films and experiences in VR format. You must submit by 21st March 2017. Just to share, the Director of this Festival is Pol Jeremias and he is also a Graphics Engineer at Pixar Animation Studios. Cool….
And the Last One is….
Last but not least is “VR Village“. It is a forum to demonstrate the rapid evolution of VR and AR stuff. It is a special place to showcase the next generation of the immersive methods or techniques that can enhance or realize virtual presence. The focus here is more on the experience rather than the technology. Some of the examples are wearables, haptics, nomadic (untethered) VR, games, themed entertainment, VR installations etc. Remember, the dateline is on 21st March 2017. VR Village is chaired by Denise Quesnel where he is also a Research Assistant at Simon Fraser University.
Well, what are you waiting for? This is a good platform to show off your VR stuff. Don’t be delay in your VR submissions. For more info, you can visit:
