It seems that Sharp is also trying to go into the VR market by developing a prototype called “VR Haptic Controller“.

What they are trying to achieve is to have a gadget that can provide tactile sensations on five fingertips on each hand. Meaning to say, you will not only feel the touch, but also can feel the texture such as smooth or rough.

How It Is Done?

Well, on the fingertips of the controller there are multi-segmented tactile elements. The vibration patterns on the surface can make it feels like touching different textures.

Besides, there are also sticks and buttons on the “gloves” so you can use it as normal VR controller to do things like moving and jumping. Awesome, rite?

For the testers, they need to add haptic content to the objects so it can be touchable. In order to do this, they need to be able to operate a game engine which is at least enough to upload a world to social VR.

Lastly…

From Sharp, it is in their plan to improve the quality of the controllers by working closely with their users rather than just leave it to their developers to work on it until finished.

For your info, the provisional price for the handsets is JPY 100,000. Unfortunately, the pre-registration is already closed.
