Recently, on 18th March 2014, Sony revealed their latest virtual reality headset during the Game Developers Conference 2014 (GDC 2014). As of now, the code name for that latest Sony’s baby is “Project Morpheus“. During the event, Shuhei Yoshida, the president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios introduced the stylistic black-and-white head mounted display with 1080p resolution and 90 degree field of view.

According to him, the virtual reality is the next innovation from Sony PlayStation that will shape the future of games. Expectation is that this VR head gear will work perfectly with PlayStation 4. Furthermore, it will have a seamless integration with the PlayStation Camera and PlayStation Move.
However, the headset is still in the prototype form and Sony is still fine tuning and improving it. The six areas that Sony are focusing right now to ensure that it can be mass market successfully are sight, sound, tracking, control, ease of use and content. Right now, from what I can seee, the closest competitor to this project will definitely be Oculus Rift from the kickstarter project.
