Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) & Centre of Excellence for VR…

According to Datuk Ir (Dr) Abdul Rahim Hashim, the UTP Vice Chancellor, once it is established, UTP will be the first university in Asia to have the Centre of Excellence (COE) dedicated to virtual reality. The main purpose is to develop talent and certified professionals in the VR areas. Furthermore, immersive training using virtual reality technology can help the soon-to-be engineers in preparing themselves to handle, manage or prevent future disasters on offshore rigs or chemical plants. Some sort like the simulation training for the pilot.

For your info, Virtalis is an international VR solution provider and advanced visualisation company where their products are widely used in United States and Europe. Meanwhile, Thames Technology is their regional partner in Malaysia where it provides the solution for their clients to maximize their investment on VR and advanced visualization.

The collaboration among the three organizations will establish a Virtual Reality Lab and GeoVisionary visualisation centre at UTP. Furthermore, this partnership will create many R&D opportunities for UTP to work with. This sounds like an awesome news for the VR fans in Malaysia. Perhaps, they can borrow or rent the place for future VR events. For more info, you can read it at:
